Proportions are important to understand

Level: Beginners

If you attend any Art School or art tutorials, one of the important skills you will learn is how to use proportions. It is a basic skill of learning to draw accurately. You select a measuring unit and compare this item to everything else that you are drawing. That way the entire drawing will be in proportion to every other aspect. In Portraits I use one of the eyes as a measuring unit; in Life drawing I use the head, but in a Still Life you have to select something that works as a measuring unit against everything in the Still Life.
